Local Information

The Otter Inn (in Weston), has a large beer garden, bordered by the river Otter and is approximately two miles away. Both pubs are family friendly and accept dogs.


Hembury Fort Hill s a Roman/Iron Age Hill Fort and is less than half a mile away. There are some defensive ramparts still intact, parking is in a woodland trust car park, just 5 minutes off the A373. The village also has a Norman church which is open to visitors.

Land Rover Experience is at the other end of the village and provides off road driver training, for individuals and groups.

There is course fishing at Marles Farm, in the village and this is open seven days a week and  various other opportunities to enjoy Trout and Course fishing within the Blackdown Hills. Horse riding can by booked at Devonshire Pitt Riding School, Farway (approx 5 miles)  or at Sheldon Riding Centre, Sheldon, Blackdown Hills (approx 5miles). 

We are 3 miles from the historic market town of Honiton, made famous for its Lace making. It has a  weekly street market on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. There is a small local museum, art gallery (Thelma Hulbert), sports centre with tennis, badminton and squash courts and swimming pool. There are numerous gift shops, cafes, restaurants, take-aways and pubs.

There are many local attractions to entertain the family: Wild Wood at Escot, Woodlands Adventure Park, Bicton Botanical Gardens, Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary, Exmouth World of Country Life, Crealy Adventure Park, Powderham Castle, and Paignton Zoo are all easily accessible. Honiton has an indoor play area 'Planet Play', to help on wet weather days and there are Caves, Trams, Steam trains, horse drawn canal barge rides and river or sea wildlife cruises to add a bit of variety to your options. Haldon forest just outside Exter has mountain bike trails and there is kayaking and paddle boarding available at Sidmouth.

We are 15 to 20 minutes drive to the stunning Jurassic Coastline, recently awarded World Heritage Status. Historic Sidmouth is the closest beach, a mixture of shingle and sand at low tide. The pretty fishing villlages of Beer and Branscombe are only a few minutes more, both shingle. The famous Cobb and beaches at Lyme Regis are about 40 minutes away and are a very popular family day out. The golden sands and sand dunes of Exmouth are also about a 40 minute drive. 

The farm is situated in The Blackdown Hills, a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and there are walks from the farm. All the beaches above are linked by and give access to the South West Coastal Footpath and Honiton is an access point for the East Devon Footpath. Further afield are the stunning and unique National Parks of Dartmoor and Exmoor, both easily reached in under an hours drive.

There are numerous golf courses near by, for example, Honiton Golf Course and Woodbury Park Golf Club.

There are many National Trust properties and gardens of note locally. Of particular local interest are Killerton House, Knightshayes Court and Hestercombe Gardens.

The Catherdral City of Exeter is about 15 miles away. With its historic Quay (cycle and/or canoe hire along the Exe), Cathedral Green, new shopping precinct, Royal Albert Museum, 3 cinemas, Phoenix Arts Centre, Northcott Theatre, indoor climbing wall, ten pin bowling and remains of the old Roman Wall, it has an interest to suit everyone.
